If the idea of allergens, bacteria, viruses, and molds floating around the air of your home grosses you out -- you aren’t alone. That’s one of the many reasons some specialty HVAC-connected products were invented: to improve home air quality, and by extension, your health.
The level of indoor pollutants in our homes can be up to 100 times greater than those found outdoors. A traditional ventilation system, like your air conditioner or furnace, continually circulates the pollutants.
Meyer Heating & Air can offer our valued customers a sense of security and safety, thanks to our expertise in air scrubbers, air filters, and air-sanitizing equipment.
Every residential HVAC system requires an air filter. These filters come in all sizes and MERV values, so it’s important you purchase one that fits your unit.
A MERV value, or minimum efficiency reporting value, measures the filter’s ability to capture particles in the air between 0.3 and 10 microns. The higher the MERV rating, the better the filter is at trapping particles of certain sizes. The residential air filters we use most often when we perform maintenance on your furnace or air conditioner has a MERV rating of 8 to 12. These filters should be changed monthly for the best filtration results.
Some filters are HEPA, or high efficiency particulate air filters. HEPA filters are said to remove 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, or other particles with a size 0.3 microns or larger. Smaller particles may get through the filter.
You can use a HEPA filter in your residential HVAC system, but know they need to be cleaned or changed just as often as a standard filter to work their best. We recommend installing these filters in place of a less effective one.
For the most effective air purification, guaranteed, Meyer Heating & Air recommends the Sanuvox Air Purification System. It uses ultraviolet (UV) light to purify the air and is installed using your existing HVAC ductwork.
Sanuox systems kill germs in the air, effectively removing 99.99999% of harmful particles; it was shown to be highly effective at killing the 2003 SARS virus. The system uses two components: a UV lamp and a reflector chamber. The UV and UVC lamps destroy chemicals, particles, and odors in the air. The reflector chamber directs the UV energy for optimal purification. Finally, the system recircles clean air throughout your home.
Meyer Heating & Air is an authorized dealer of Sanuvox Air Purification Systems, which are used worldwide in residential, commercial, and medical applications, for the most advanced air sanitization available.
