Heating Trouble? Learn When to Call Our Furnace Repair Service Team

There’s nothing more frustrating than losing heat in your home. You depend on your furnace, and the last thing you want is to be cold and searching for a solution at the same time.

Meyer Heating & Air – the leading St. Louis team for furnace repair service, including emergency furnace repair – wants to be sure all homes are warm and cozy throughout the wintertime and early spring – so we’ve put together a checklist to help you to take control of your furnace, even if you don’t have any HVAC experience at all.

Follow this guide, and you’ll be able to prevent a situation where you have no idea what to do next and no one to turn to if trouble with your furnace crops up. Now, you have Meyer on your side, and you’ll never have to be worried about our HVAC system again.

What You Can Do to Troubleshoot Your Furnace – 5 Tips from Our Furnace Repair Team

Meyer Heating & Air loves educating our customers on how to operate their furnace effectively, so that you feel empowered and don’t have to call some untrustworthy emergency furnace repair contractor that will take advantage of your desperation.

Instead, Meyer Heating & Air always guides our customers through the products we install and services we perform – and makes sure you know how to get a hold of us when you need us. But, before you call, you can always try the following steps to troubleshoot your furnace yourself:

  1. Check the Thermostat
Does the thermostat need to be turned on and off to restart? Is it set to “heat” at a temperature that is above room temperature? Are there any notifications on the system that are letting you know maintenance or furnace repair service is needed? Is your thermostat the kind that needs to be charged or requires a change of batteries?
  2.

  3. Check the Power on the Furnace
Furnaces will often have a power switch on the outside of the system. Make sure this is flipped on. If there’s still no power, check your electrical panel box to see if a breaker has flipped. Remember that dealing with electricity requires a great deal of safety. Never have wet hands or be in the presence of water when you’re trying to deal with your electrical panel. If you aren’t confident you can access your furnace located in a crawlspace or attic, always get professional help. When in doubt, tread with caution, and call us at Meyer.
  4.

  5. Check Your Furnace Flame
Your furnace flame should be blue (sometimes the flame has a yellow tip). If the flame is too low or is not lit, it can be reset, following the instructions that should be printed nearby. Remember – as we said above – that dealing with a furnace and electricity can be dangerous, so look closely at the instructions for any warnings in advance.
  6.

  7. Are Your Registers and Returns Open and Unobstructed?
Check to see if all of your registers and return vents are open and aren’t blocked by furniture, pillows, or any other items in your home. This could potentially be the cause of heat not flowing properly throughout your house. We know this one seems like a no-brainer, but – hey – sometimes even the little things in our homes get away from us!
  8.

  9. When in Doubt, Call Meyer!  If you’ve tried the above, and there’s still no heat, or, if you don’t feel comfortable troubleshooting alone, we are always here for you. We’re available 24 hours a day, 365 days out of the year for furnace repair service to make sure your HVAC system is firing on all cylinders.
